Origins

The mansion’s history traces back to the 18th century, when the Spanish crown granted the noble title of Count of Guaqui to a distinguished Creole family from Arequipa of Navarrese descent.
Owners of vast estates and active in commerce and mining, the family held prominent political and military positions throughout the colonial period.

Restoration

Restoration work was carried out in collaboration with local artisans who meticulously preserved the mansion’s original architecture and decorative detail.
Traditional and sustainable techniques were used to harmonize old and new, reviving the spirit of the house while honoring Peru’s cultural and craft heritage.

Count of Guaqui

The title of Count of Guaqui was first granted to General José Manuel de Goyeneche, following his victory at the Battle of Guaqui (or Desaguadero), by King Ferdinand VII on May 14, 1817, as recorded in the Royal Grant Order and ecclesiastical records.

Restoration

For the restoration, Ananay partnered with local artisans who have worked meticulously to preserve and restore the original architectural and it’s decorative details. These artisanal works not only revitalize the beauty of the mansion but also highlight the cultural and artisanal heritage of Peru, integrating the old with the contemporary in a harmonious way using traditional and sustainable techniques.

Count of Guaqui
